CSK edge out DD in a thriller - Match review

Ashish Nehra rolled back the years, with a man of the match performance to give CSK a winning start against DD, at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Albie Morkel fought a lone battle against his former employees and almost won it for DD, falling agonizingly short of the target by 1 run.Questions have to be asked of Duminy's captaincy for holding back Yuvraj and himself till the 4th wicket went down.

Having won the toss, DD put in CSK to bat on a newly relaid pitch which had its fair share of assistance to the bowlers. The home crowd had a dream start as Dwayne Smith scored three boundaries in the first over.McCullum got a leading edge in his first ball which also raced away for a four. He was dismissed in the very next ball trying a hara-kiri shot after dancing down the pitch.IPL's leading run getter, Suresh Raina also fell cheaply. Both wickets were picked up by Aussie quick Nathan Coulter- Nile who finished off with impressive figures of 30/3.The spinners Amit Mishra and Imran Thahir bowled impressively, keeping the score in check. Du Plessis, Smith and Dhoni all scored 30's, with the latters 2 sixes in the final over proving to be decisive.Jadeja promoted to no 5 position was a move which backfired big time, and in the end it was left to Dhoni and Ashwin to help CSK achieve the 150 mark, short by at least 20 runs considering the start they had.

DD's batting weakness' has been well documented, especially the Indians among the ranks. Mayank Agarwal made a decent 15, while wicket-keeper Gautam and promising Shreyas Iyer were dismissed cheaply, all falling to the left arm seamer from Delhi. The 35 year old Nehra, bowled with decent pace and more importantly in the right areas to leave DD in trouble at 39/3. Albie Morkel was sent in at 3 and was intent on getting the scorecard ticking with a boundary here n there.but there was still o sign of Yuvi or Duminy. Kedhar Jadhav came in at 5 and made a run a ball 20. It was after he was dismissed by Mohit Sharma that Yuvraj came in to bat in the 14th over. Both Yuvi and Duminy are players who likes to take some time before launching into attack mode. So it was a move which still baffles me. Both were dismissed cheaply and in the end Albie Morkel fell short of breath as well as partners and missed the target by a single run.
