SRH skipper David Warner aand his opening partner Shikar Dhawan scored contrasting half centuries, as SRH got off the mark in this season's IPL with an eight wicket victory over RCB, with 16 balls to spare. While Warner hammered a 27 ball 57, Dhawan played through the innings, well assisted by Lokesh Rahul. RCB's bowling woes continued as they bowled too short yet again and none except Y Chahal impressed.
Persistent rains in Bangalore had cast doubts over the match, but the skies remained clear once the action started. Gayle looked in fine touch as he hit Boult over the ropes in just the third ball of the innings. Praveen Kumar, who came into the side for Ishant Sharma, cut short the West Indian's stay at the crease as he was out caught trying for another biggie.Dinesh Karthick failed once again with the bat as he was dismissed for 9.Kohli looked set for a big knock, but he failed to capitalise in spite of surviving a caught & bowled off Karn Sharma.Ravi Bopara accounted for Kohli and then Mandeep Singh in two balls. the latter thanks to a flying one-handed effort by Warner.AB De Villiers wasn't connecting with the ball that well, and was caught by Shikar Dhawan but he had stepped over the ropes. Its testament to De Villiers talent that he still notched up 46 off 28 balls, despite not being on form. With 5 wickets falling in the final two overs, RCB were short of their intended target by at least 20 runs, as none of the batting trio managed to carry on after getting in.
On a strong batting track like the one at Bangalore, 167 looked a gettable target and it proved to be. Warner was out of the blocks in no time and aided by some mediocre bowling from the hosts, as he hit four maximums and six hits to the fence in his knock of 57. By the time he was dismissed, SRH had raced away to 82 in just 8 overs, taking run rate out of the equation. Chahal dismissed Warner and then Kane Williamson cheaply to slightly raise hopes for a RCB comeback. But Lokesh Rahul came in and played a solid knock to ease away to victory.
