Match 2 preview - CSK vs DD

The Chepauk stadium in Chennai welcomes back the IPL after sorting out issues with the civic authorities here, which meant CSK had to play their home matches else where in the last two seasons. They will be hosting the revamped Delhi Daredevils which will be looking to make a strong start to better the last place finish they have endured for two seasons running. History strongly favours CSK with a 10-4 record and its hard to see the result going the other way.

CSK are the most well settled team in the IPL with its strong core of Indian players led by MSD. Their strength undoubtedly lies in the batting, with the fiery opening partnership of Brendun McCullum and Dwayne Smith. The two had contrasting fortunes in the world cup, but if either of them clicks, it will go a long way in setting up the match nicely for the likes of Raina, Du Plessis, Dhoni and Bravo to finish off. The bowling is considerably weaker with Ashwin and Jadeja handling the spin department, while Mohit Sharma,Ashish Nehra and Ishwar Pandey is likely to make up the 11, as Irfan Pathan is reportedly out with an injury.

Delhi Daredevils on the other hand have a brand new squad, except a few players. Duminy is the new skipper allowing Yuvraj Singh to play freely. Yuvi's dad scathing personal attack on MSD has certainly created headlines in the last few days but am sure there's no enemity between the duo. The bizzare state government ruling banning Sri Lankan players from Chennai, means DD will have to do without the services of all rounder Angelo Mathews, a big blow no doubt.DD also have a decision to make as to who will be opening along with Quinton De Kock. The Indian contingent in the squad isn't threatening and Yuvraj and Duminy will have to do the bulk of the scoring. Shami is a doubt with a knee injury and Zaheer is not in the best of shape. Amit Mishra was a good buy and he will play a key role along with Imran Tahir.

CSK will count on home support to make a winning start to the new season against a weak opposition. Dwayne Bravo will be raring to go after missing the World Cup and expect fireworks from the bat of McCullum.
